Celebrating Burntisland's Dockside Heritage

Burntisland's dockside has played a central role in shaping the town's identity for generations. From maritime trade and shipbuilding to the everyday lives of those who lived and worked by the water, the docks tell a powerful story of industry, community, and change.

That story is now more easier to access than ever before, thanks to a series of newly installed heritage boards. These engaging displays offer locals and visitors the chance to pause, reflect, and learn more about the people, industries, and events that have defined the town's maritime past. The boards also act as an introduction to further discovery, encouraging visitors to continue their journey at the Burntisland Heritage Centre. There, a rich collection of artefacts, photographs, and personal stories bring Burntisland's history to life.

Located outside the railway station, the boards provide a striking welcome to those arriving in the town, while standing as a source of pride for the local community. Their prominent position ensures that Burntisland's dockside heritage remains visible, accessible, and celebrated.

Central Burntisland TRA would like to thank everyone who contributed to the project. The dedication, knowledge, and enthusiasm shown have helped to ensure that Burntisland's remarkable history can be remembered and appreciated for years to come.

A Sensory Garden for Everyone

What began as a neglected corner of land has now become one of Burntisland's most uplifting community success stories.

Thanks to plenty of hard work and community participation, the once-abandoned space has been transformed into a calm and welcoming garden where residents can relax, reflect, and enjoy a moment of peace away from the everyday pressures of life.

Building on this progress, Central Burntisland TRA is now looking ahead to an even more ambitious chapter. Plans are in the works to evolve the garden into a fully immersive sensory space - a place designed to engage visitors through touch, scent, sound, and colour. Focusing on these various effects plants can evoke on our senses, the garden aims to become both a beautiful destination and a meaningful resource to improve the mental well-being of the community.

This transformation has only been possible thanks to the commitment and collaboration from many. Central Burntisland TRA extends sincere thanks to Fife Council Housing, Building Services, and Parks and Open Spaces for their continued support. Above all, the project demonstrates the dedication of the TRA members, whose hard work and passion have turned a once-overlooked area into somewhere the community can truly be proud of.

With plans for the next phase now underway, the garden is set to grow into an even more cherished space for years to come.
