A Fresh Chapter for St Leonards Park

On Saturday 30 August, Brucefield TRA hosted a lively community fun day to celebrate the completion of Phase 1 of the St Leonards Park regeneration project - and what a day it was!

The celebrations kicked off with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at the brand-new play area. Joined by Tenant Participation's much-loved mascot Sandy the Dog, local children - who have played an important role in shaping the park's transformation - helped to officially open the space. Sandy was an instant hit, making plenty of new friends while exploring the equipment and joining in on the excitement.

Thankfully, the weather stayed dry, encouraging families to come along and enjoy the afternoon together. The play area was buzzing with activity from the moment it opened, and it was heart-warming to see children and families making the most of the new facilities.

Overall, it was a wonderful afternoon filled with laughter, community spirit, and extremely positive feedback on the park improvements so far. We're excited to see what will be achieved next as Phase 2 of the regeneration gets underway.

Celebrating Our Community Champion 2024

We're proud to share that Kathleen Langner, a member of Brucefield Tenants and Residents Association and FFOTRA Board member, has been named Community Champion 2024 at the Dunfermline Press' Community Awards on Thursday 13 June.

The award recognises Kathleen's commitment to improving St Leonards Park in Dunfermline, working closely with Brucefield TRA to turn a big vision into real, lasting change for the local community.

A £1.2 million masterplan for the park was developed with landscape architects Urban Pioneers, and through community consultation the project was broken down into clear, achievable stages. So far, £300,000 has been secured to support key improvements, including flood prevention measures, new accessible paths and lighting, a new play area, and a stunning art installation on the sports pavilion - all due for completion this year.

Reflecting on the award, Kathleen said:

"Our community has been neglected for years. These improvements will benefit so many people, giving our residents a fantastic outdoor space to enjoy and that the community can be proud of."

She added that while she was surprised and delighted to receive the award, she hopes the project will inspire other communities to take on ambitious projects of their own.

Congratulations Kathleen!

Bringing Colour to the Community

A once-neglected football pavilion has been brought back to life with a vibrant new mural, transforming the space into a striking celebration of community spirit and creativity.

Created through a collaboration between Brucefield TRA and local artist Donna Forrester, the mural is a powerful example of how public art can foster pride, connection, and a sense of ownership within the community. The project forms part of the TRA's ongoing work to improve and enhance their local park, creating a more welcoming space for everyone to enjoy.

The mural's design was inspired by artwork produced by pupils from the art department at Dunfermline High School. Their ideas reflect many of the things that make Dunfermline special, including the historic Dunfermline Abbey and, of course, the infamous peacocks of the Glen. These locally inspired elements have been woven together to create a mural that truly represents the area and the people who call it home.

Since its completion, the mural has not only brightened up the pavilion for local residents, but has also attracted visitors from neighbouring areas, helping to shine a spotlight on the park and the wider community.
